VINNIE PAUL Says He Has His 'Own Personal Reasons' For Not Wanting To Deal With ANSELMO, BROWN
November 2, 2010On November 1, 2010, Sonic Shocks conducted an interview with HELLYEAH/ex-PANTERA drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott. You can now watch the chat below. A couple of excerpts follow.
On the 20th-anniversary reissue of PANTERA's "Cowboys From Hell" album:
Vinnie: "It's pretty special. It doesn't feel like 20 years to me at all. To look back on it, to listen to it, the record truly stands the test of time. It sounds as fresh today as it did then. It stands up to all of today's music, the audio on it is pretty incredible. It was a pretty special time. We were really a very, very hungry band, a very angry band, and it all came through in the music, and it turned out perfect."
On how involved he was in putting the "Cowboys From Hell" reissue together:
Vinnie: "I was involved in every bit of it from the start. I helped dig out the demos that appeared on it, I went through all the photos that ended up on it, I helped everybody with their liner notes and everything. I think it's a really, really special package for anybody that's ever followed the band or even for people that don't know anything about the band; it definitely encompasses that time period."
On whether working on the "Cowboys" reissue gave him an opportunity to meet with former PANTERA bandmates Rex Brown (bass) and Philip Anselmo (vocals) again:
Vinnie: "Nah, nah, nah... I have my own personal reasons for not wanting to deal with them, but you know, everybody pitched in and did their parts and I think we did it justice all the way around."
On whether PANTERA's record label tried to convince the band's surviving members to do something together to promote the "Cowboys" reissue:
Vinnie: "No. They know better than that. It's just one of those things that, unless you were there, you don't understand and there's no reason to go into it. It is what it is, and I'm happy doing what I'm doing now, and I'll leave it at that."
